2 out of 3 ain’t bad! In this family two dogs Eva and Prince have separation anxiety and little Charlie doesn’t…,
It’s daunting enough when you have one dog with separation anxiety let alone two but these two clever doggies are doing really well!
We have already reached a comfortable foundation time of 30 minutes and included some of the main pre-departure cues like opening the roller door getting into the car and starting it up. We’ve just started to back it out of the garage.
When you work with two or more Dogs with SA you need to go at the pace of the slowest. Initially that was Prince but now it is Eva, although they are not far apart and Eva is showing some really good resilience and new coping skills.
This sort of training is a big commitment and their mum and dad Steph and Dom are doing an amazing job!
If you need some help with your Dogs’ separation anxiety I am a certified separation anxiety trainer (CSAT) and offer a complimentary 30 minute zoom call to talk through the training options and cost.
I would love to help you get you and your dogs’life back on track!

“Think human medication is safe for dogs? Think again! Some of these common meds can be fatal.
1️⃣ Painkillers like ibuprofen (Advil) → Causes kidney failure & stomach ulcers!
2️⃣ Antidepressants → Can cause seizures & heart issues!
3️⃣ Cold meds like decongestants → Can lead to fatal heart problems!
4️⃣ Sleep & anxiety meds → May slow breathing or cause coma!
❌ Even small amounts can be deadly. Share this to help other pet parents stay informed! 🐶🚨🐶
Toxicity depends on the dog’s weight, but kidney failure can occur at lower doses.
Remember that larger dogs like my Greyhound Rocket can easily get medication off a kitchen bench or a dining table as their snouts are at a higher level than the smaller breeds.

There is a growing shift away from Crate training - the den a dog has no choice but to stay in when the door is closed.
I’ve been wanting to post about this for ages. I’m heartened to see that other trainers are gradually moving away from traditional crate training as a form of confinement and management. There are simply fairer ways to go about both of these.
Having been an advocate of it for many years, I have since changed my mind for the reasons that I have listed in this reel
There are still a couple of times I feel it’s appropriate, see reel), but I have seen way too many examples of inappropriate use, intentional and unintentional and it having detrimental effects on dogs, hence I had to speak up.

When your girl catches you being a little too friendly with someone else… 👀🐶”
Rocket and Peppa went to meet little Pippa recently and it was clear that Peppa was a little concerned about the attention he was giving Pippa. However, after the first meet and greet she had a lovely time with Pippa playing together.
I don’t normally recommend meet and greets on leads but in this circumstance I had Rocket on a lead because he is so big and I wasn’t sure if Pippa would be scared of him but she wasn’t. Peppa was on a lead because Pippas family have cats and she is not Cat tested.
Do Dogs experience a little jealousy sometimes? I think so. I think I’ve seen too many examples of it, not to believe it they don’t.

Just switched Rocket onto Lyka and already the difference is amazing!
Rocket has IBD and I have using a diet designed to manage this for sometime now. Some of which I have been cooking.
Unfortunately of late he has had flare ups and over time his coat has become dull. He is experiencing hair loss in certain spots as well, so I thought I had to change it up.
I have been considering transferring to Lyka for a while and I now wish I had done it sooner, as he has only been on this diet for a week and I am already seeing a BIG difference!
It is well known now that the gut and the brain are very much in conversation, so it’s important to get it right….
If you are considering a change for your dog as far as diet goes, I can help get you 50% off your first order. See link in my bio.

Who keeps digging up the dominance theory?
I had someone tell me the other day that a trainer had told her that her dog was dominant?
I couldn’t believe what I was hearing 🙄
Let’s move into the future people….. If you hear a trainer say that run a mile as it indicates their methods are from the Stone Age!

“Uh-oh! You turn the corner... and there’s another dog! 😬
Here’s how to get a good look at what’s coming around the corner before you turn it, if you are walking a reactive dog.
We can’t completely control the environment and sometimes there will be a dog literally heading around the corner as you are.
However, this little tip can give you the time you need to see if the coast is clear in most cases.

A reactive dog is always communicating—listen and respond to their need for space and reassurance.
Let them know that you understand & will do all you can to keep them feel more comfortable.
In time they will start to put their trust in you, and look to you, when they feel uncomfortable, instead of lunging and barking and driving for the space they feel they need in that moment.
There’s a lot more to it than that, but it’s a good starting point. The next thing you need to do is reach out for some professional help with this behaviour problem.
I was working with the beautiful Pasta and his mum Emily and dad Lee today and he was very clear with his body language to let us know when he was not comfortable. I started teaching them how to work with him in regards to his reactivity. We had a great first session. We will definitely be working on building his confidence and optimism as part of his training.
I work with a lot of reactive dogs and every single one of them requires an individually tailored behaviour modification training plan, patience and consistency.
Some individuals may also require additional support from a Vet who has an interest in behaviour or a VB who specialises in it.

Join me for a day in the life of a dog trainer!
No tricky cases today, just cuteness, basic training and some amazing results!
Gus and Ruben learnt to relax on a mat. We worked on some demand barking and toilet training concerns that their dad Darcy had as well.
I did a puppy training with the ridiculously cute Taco and his family. He got the Zoomies midway through! Such a happy little puppy….
Then I met with Indie and her dad Jim for some loose lead walking and passing other dogs calmly. We worked on some impulse control as well.
Indie wasn’t suited to a class situation. She got completely overwhelmed, so we changed tact and did one on one consultations instead and she’s doing brilliantly.
I haven’t added in the admin bit to today’s jobs because it’s not exciting, but after each consultation I write up a detailed training plan and I also write separation anxiety exercises for my clients in the evening, so my day was definitely not over at the end of this reel…..…..
