When you first bring your puppy home it is a very exciting but busy time. If you’re constantly cleaning up messes, not getting much sleep, being bitten and jumped on, you may feel you need to start Puppy School right now!

Our Puppy School program allows you to do just that! Once payment is made you get access to the Puppy Classroom and all the course resources so that you can get started at home before practical lessons commence.

Checkout our Online Puppy School option for those of you with work schedules that don’t align with regular class times, have transport or financial constraints, or who live in remote locations!

What Your Puppy Will Learn

  • The Basics: Your pup will learn basic cues like sit, look, touch, down, relax and stay. These foundational skills will help you negotiate our busy urban environment as a team.
  • Recall: A reliable recall is vital if you want to give your pup the freedom to be off-leash in a safe area and play with their friends.
  • Loose Leash Walking: Your puppy will learn how to walk on a loose leash, pass other dogs calmly and have good connection with you when out and about. They will also learn how to walk in a heel position when crossing the road.
  • Sit To Greet: The jumping may be cute when they’re small – not so much when your puppy grows up!  We can show you how to teach your pup to sit to greet from an early age.
  • Management: Life with a puppy has its challenges. Literally everything goes into their mouths! Cues like “drop it” and “leave it” will help you manage this when you are out and about.
  • Self-Control: Puppies learn self-control in close proximity to other pups and their families. This, with learning to relax on their mats, translates to sitting quietly at a café, with practice.

What You Will Learn

  • How to “speak dog”: Being able to read your puppy’s and other dogs’ body language is absolutely essential and allows you to determine how they are feeling.  Then you can make better decisions based on what you see, and you will end up with a confident, well-balanced and happy dog.
  • Toilet Training: We can show you how to train your pup where the toilet is – in a positive way. You will learn the keys to success and have your puppy toilet-trained in no time.
  • Socialisation: Puppies go through several (critical) socialization periods that can be pivotal in how they turn out as adults. We can show you what to expect and when, and how to safely socialize your puppy at their pace.
  • Problem Solving Skills: Like humans, dogs go through several different phases in their development.  From fear periods to rebellious teenagers. We can give you the necessary skills to successfully navigate your way through these stages in their life.

How to Enrol

Course Details

  • $250 inc. GST for the 5-week training course.
  • Your teacher is Delta-accredited and a Certified Separation Anxiety Trainer.
  • Maximum of 6 puppies per class.
  • Puppies aged 10-16 weeks can enrol – exception can be made for smaller breeds up to 6 months, numbers permitting.
  • Your puppy must have had two vaccinations and one week has passed by Week 2 (first practical lesson).
  • Practical classes are predominantly held indoors, but we go outdoors for some exercises, hence why two vaccinations is important.
  • Enrolments can be taken up until one day before Week 2 (first practical lesson).
  • Once enrolled and payment is received, you will be given immediate access to all course resources.
  • Upon completion, you might like to purchase one of our graduation outfits.

1) Enrol in Puppy School & create a client account – Choose your venue below!
2) Pay your course fee directly to My Vet Zetland or Happy Little Howlers.
3) We will confirm your payment & activate your account.
4) You will receive an email notification & can immediately access the Puppy Classroom.

What To Expect

Week 1

Our first lesson is theory-based and viewed online in the Puppy Classroom.

In your first lesson, we cover toilet training, managing biting and chewing, alone time, sleeping arrangements, setting boundaries and socialisation.

Week 2-5

Practical lessons at your chosen class venue show you how to teach your puppy the basics and beyond.

Once you know what you are doing, your pup will follow and you can work together as a team.

Homework

Each week you will receive clear instructions on what you should be working on outside of class.

Training puppies takes time, patience, and consistency, but it’s an investment in your future together and it’s fun!

Application

We will give you the confidence and skill to apply what you have learned in the program to real-life situations. 

We will also teach you how to prevent problem behaviours from developing in the first place.
